Close

Alex MacDonald-Vitale became Chairman of the Middle East Investor Relations Association in December 2015, having fostered extensive support for MEIRA regionally and internationally since 2010. Leading renewed efforts to support the role of capital markets in the economic diversification agenda, he has advised on the development of investor engagement strategies, including new legislation making IR mandatory, and by early 2017, the signing of MoU’s with exchanges across the GCC and Levant.

Based in Dubai since 2010, Alex spent five years heading the first regional IR and strategic advisory role for HSBC in MENA. Overseeing three listings across fourteen countries, with both equity and debt IR as well as ratings coverage, he was instrumental in helping raise international awareness of Middle East equities and capital market developments.

Prior to this Alex established and developed the first bank investor relations function in Saudi Arabia for SABB, where he first joined HSBC.Prior to this Alex worked for ten years at the Foreign Office, where he focused on crisis response, conflict resolution, and intermediary roles - government to government to military and the private sector. Following a number of postings across the Middle East and Africa, he specialized as an Arabist, making this his fourth language. By 2008 the increasing influence of multinational corporates on government policy turned his attention back to the private sector, where he took a unique opportunity to return to the world of capital markets.

Alex began his career with an internship in investment banking, moving to management consultancy where he specialised in corporate governance and intellectual property. In his early twenties he established his own limited company in the UK, focused on design and innovation. Design and solutions-based invention remain among his personal interests, along with music, travel and numerous sports, leading also to some charity fund-raising projects.
